Find your property's main shut-off valve — usually at the boundary, near the water meter, or where the supply enters the building. Turn it clockwise (right) to close.

Move electronics, documents, rugs and furniture away from wet areas. Photograph everything before you move it — these images are critical for your insurance claim.
If water is anywhere near electrical outlets, distribution boards, or appliances, switch off the main breaker at your DB board. Don't step into standing water if you can't confirm the electricity is off.
